SERVANT LEADERSHIP JESUS' STYLE

JESUS’ TEACHING IS THAT WE LEAD BY SERVING AND SERVE BY LEADING
Mathew 14:1-14
As Jesus makes his way toward Jerusalem to be executed, the mother of James and John requests that her son s be given a preferred seat next to Jesus in the kingdom of heaven.
Both the disciples and their families have become preoccupied with status rather than serving.
They have missed the whole point of Jesus’ leadership.
Jesus tells them plainly that his style of leadership stands in direct contrast to what the world stands for.
He teaches that the greatest must be the servant.
Leadership is about adding value, not getting perks.
As responsibilities increase, Rights Decrease.

Consider the leadership pyramid based on this principle
             RIGHTS                                                            OPPORTUNITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
                                                                                          RESPONSIBILITIES

Rights decreases as you climb                    Responsibilities INCREASE as you climb toward leadership in the church           toward leadership in church
OPTIONS and RIGHTS
If the pyramid represent your life and the base represents the beginning of your leadership journey
Your range of options is widest at the beginning.
The younger you are, the more liberties you have with time, vocabulary, money .etc.
But as you grow into leadership, you deliberately surrender those rights and options.
Servants push for options and assume no rights.
For Jesus, children presented the best example of the required attitude for servant leaders
 Mark 10:13-16
13 Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” 16 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.
Children exhibit humility, wonder, honesty, innocence, trust and dependence.
Kindly take note that:-
1.     The greater the leader, the greater the servant Mark 9:35
2.     Leaders include others when they serve, Mark 9:40
3.     Any service rendered will be rewarded Mark 9:41
4.     Servant leaders must become childlike, Mark 10:13116
5.     Servant leaders risks their own life to serve Christ Romans 16:3-4
You must lead yourself before you can lead others
In Mathew 14:1-14
Though Jesus is confronted with a catch 22 situation
He acts as a servant leader.
His cousin John has been executed
He withdraws to and recollect
But guess what?
People follow him with their own selfish and personal needs and attention.
Alas! Jesus feels compassion for them and starts healing them.
One of the greatest remedies for our own suffering is serving others.
Servant leadership becomes a solution for both the one serving and the one being served.
A glimpse at Mark 9:30-37 will be an eye opener in your style of leadership
Amazing stuff here now we learn as we come to the end of our message today
Luke 4:3-10
Luke 4:3-10
New King James Version (NKJV)
And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
But Jesus answered him, saying,[a] “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”[b]
Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him[c] all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”
And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan![d] For[e] it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”[f]
Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. 10 For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you,’
Jesus teaches every leader that the first person you lead is you.
We earn the right to lead others when they see you lead well in our own lives

THE LORD BLESS HIS WORD!!
AMEN!
