THE POWER OF THE WORD OF GODTHE POWER OF THE WORD OF GOD

HEBREWS 4.12-13

“There is power, power wonder working power
In the blood of the lamb
There is power, power. Wonder working power in the precious blood of the lamb.’’
Words are powerful
Once pronounced words can not be retrieved
Careless words lead to trouble
Careful words lead to affirmation and blessing
We are a product of words whether you love it or not
The bible declares and as we love to say, THE BIBLE SAYS
It is the bible that is the mouth piece of YAHEWH
So you better pay attention when God speaks
Bwana asifiwe!
Born again people have a tongue of the learned for they only speak as and when directed to by their maker.
The word of God is powerful
It is this word that God used as a surgeons scalpel to win my soul over to him from sin 33 years ago.
This word is alive
It is active not only is it active but also powerful!
There is no weapon I know sharper than the word of God
This word found me when I had no programme for it
I was ill equipped but that did not concern the master surgeon, Jesus Christ the king of glory.
I was ignorant yes but when the word was through with me friend I realized the dirt, the filth, the smell and bad oduor was all gone
He declared me born again
For the first time I became a son
And a loved son for that matter
Friends allow me record that I have come to learn that the power in the word is because the WORD is a person
It is not empty rhetoric
It is life transforming,
You encounter the word and you do not remain the same again.
This word is Spirit
Ephesians 6.17 “And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God”. KJV
Revelation 19.13 “He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood and his name is the word of God”, NIV
Revelation 20.4 “And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw souls of them that were beheaded for their witness of Jesus, and the word of God..” KJV
Charles Swindoll said and I quote
“News articles may inform us, novels may inspire us, and poetry may enrapture us. But only the living, active word of God can transform us”
This word has been tried and tested and passed the test of time.
Jesus walked this planet doing good every where he went.
He encountered the sick and offered healing
The blind had eyes restored
The lame did walk
The demon possessed were delivered
He encountered con men like Zacheus, the well known tax collector
The Pharisees tried him severally only to get the reply “before Abraham was I am”
The scriptures refer me to Paul the great apostle.
Paul literary paid the price of accepting the word with his own personal life.
He died several times, was persecuted, and received the 40 lashes minus 1 that Jesus was given
You also know about the shipwreck and the poisonous snake that wrapped itself on his hand later on.
But the climax comes when he exercised the power of the word by shaking the snake into the fire without any harm.
Exercising the word, God used Paul to heal the sick, he was a great teacher and I have come to learn of late that Paul was good team player
Though playing a given position he knew very well that his goal was to score ‘win souls for Christ”
In Paul’s life there was no compromise, that why he gave birth to so many spiritual sons, Timothy, Barnabus, Philemon etc.
Gipsy Smith told a man who said he had received no inspiration from the bible although he had “gone through” it several times. “Let it go through you once” replied Smith, “then you will tell a different story”
Peter also learnt the power of the word and put it into exercise
The once fearful became most bold. Daring and ready to die for Christ.
He performed great miracles, people passed under his shadow and he laid his hands on handkerchiefs and things happened
Do you know the power of this word?
James 1.22 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves’.
The word is powerful
It is through the word that the sinner is declared sinless
It is by the word that I have received rest
The word declares that by the stripes he received I have been made whole
I am a product of the word
And so am I expected to live as per the requirements of the word
There are no two ways about it!
Halleluiah to Jesus!
EFFECTS OF THE POWER OF THE WORD
1. It is a guide
Psalm 119.105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path”.
2Timothy 3.16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”.
Psalm 119.67 “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word”.
If your heart and life is centered on God’s word the Holy Spirit then you can rest assured that God will guide your life

2. Protector
Psalm 119.11 “Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you”
Isaiah 41.10 “Fear not; for I am with you: be not dismayed: for I am thy God: I will strengthen you with my right hand of my righteousness”.
Isaiah 40.31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run, and not be faint”.
3. Light
Psalm 27.1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 119.140 “Thy word I very pure: therefore thy servant loves it”
Purification as we learnt is through fire and visible against the light halleluyah!
Psalm 119.133 “Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me”.
Where there is light darkness is absent, I love this.
Light is used in the bible as figurative for righteousness
Isaiah 42.6
Luke 8.16
Luke 16.8
John 1.9
John 3.19-23
John 8.12
John 9.5

4. True
Is defined as:-
•In accordance with fact or reality
•Accurate or exact
•Loyal or faithful
•Honest
This is how powerful the word of God is
When God says something in His word that is exactly what He means and that how seriously he takes his word
Psalm 138.2 “I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy loving kindness and for thy truth: for thou have exalted your word above your name”.
Psalm 119.160 “Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endures forever”.
Ephesians 1.13 “In whom you also trusted, after you heard the gospel of your salvation: in whom also you believed, you were sealed wit that Holy Spirit of promise”.

5. Bread
Signifies life in the word
Resourcefulness, strength and power or re-energization
It is an indicator of the living and not the dead
Bread also ministers to those who are alive and not dead.
John 6.50-70
Psalm 37.25 “ I have been young and now I am old; yet I have the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread’
If you want to know how bread is a precious commodity ask a boarding school student or a recruit in the armed forces for some insight
Without the bread of life you are just synonymous with a walking corpse
Life is found in Jesus the Christ who is the bread of life
He is life and him was life founded.
Exodus 23.25 “And you shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless your bread, and your water: and I will take sickness way from the midst of you”.
Isaiah30.20
1Corinthians 2.14 “But the natural man does not receive the things of the spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them because, they are spiritually discerned”
The power of the word is exercised to discerning hearts.
Hearts that are biased and leaning at all times towards the heart of God.
It is not given to everybody’s understanding that is why some read it as a good story but cannot glean onto the hidden secrets and truths embedded in it.
The Israelites never understood this truth and ate gluttonously and just fed they fed their stomachs
Nawe usiche na tumbo karai kushiba tumbo na roho yako hamna kitu
Bwana asifiwe
Eat the bread of life and let us see it from the fruits you bring forth
They should be fruits that last the test of time.
6.     Sustainance
The word is living; it brings forth and gives life
For you to stay alert and alive you have to connect into the power of the word to draw the strength of that power and use
The word is my charger when I realize the power charge is getting low.
Hebrews 4.12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, cutting to the diving asunder of the soul and the spirit, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”.
For you and I to be sustained in the word the power of the surgeons knife and its pain has to be inflicted on our bodies.
This is what Paul calls participating in the fellowship of his suffering
We have to learn to stay in the word in and out of season.
Isaiah 55.11
7. Effective
It does what is intended for
Is never late or very early
The bible declares that God watches over his word to fulfill it
The purposes and intentions of the word are carried out discreetly
There is no delay whatsoever
It acts first within a flash a twinkling of a eye
People get healed instantly not by slow motion
I received my sight by the laying on of hands there and then
My calling was ministered to several men of God just as much as I felt the impression in my heart.
Beloved this is how effective the word of God is.
For this effect to take place in your life one thing is required
You have to be alert, vigilant to his voice.
The Samaritan woman in John 4 is the best example of how effective the word is.
John 4.28 “the woman lefts her water pot, and went her way into the city, and said to the men. Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did”
Only the effective word of God is able to altar our so religious programmes.
8. Eternal
The word is from beginning and has no end
God is his word is described as the Ancient of days
Daniel 7.13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold one like the son of man came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him”.

J.A.F.N
Take note the word Ancient of days is in capital letters
Mathew 24.35 “heaven and earth will pass away but my word shall not pass away”
2Timothy2.9 “Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bounds: but the word of God is not bound
It is so eternal that you cannot chain it.
It exists beyond the boundaries of time
It is ever lasting
That is when I put my trust in this word I have supernatural force
I am un-quenchable!
Glory be to God
9. Power
The word itself has power
This power is exercise together with the spirit of God
We just speak the word and its effect is felt in our lives
The bible declares “you shall decree a thing and it shall come to pass” Job 22.28
The weapons of our warfare are mighty and strong to pull down strongholds, 2Corinthians 10.4
This weapon is the word of God, Jesus himself
Mathew 4.4
Luke 8.8
Luke 4.32
Jeremiah 1.17-19 very powerful declaration

Words are powerful
They are a weapon most of us use only to regret forever
This is why I urge you today to try the power of the word of God.
Paul urges us Colossians3.16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, in wisdom teaching and admonishing each other in Psalms, hymns and songs of praise”.
And David emphasizes in Psalm 19.14
“May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be found acceptable before you oh Jehovah my strength and redeemer”.
Words are so powerful such that they can either create or kill.
Name calling such as “good for nothing” are dangerous they suppress the scriptures and the effect of the word of God to whomsoever they are spoken to.
Simply put Jeremiah 1.4 is lost in the mix
“Before I formed you in the belly I knew thee: and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee and ordained thee a prophet unto the nations”
Knowing that every word counts, let us be very careful for we shall also give account
Mathew 12.36
“But I say that every idle word a person says, they shall give account therefore in the Day of Judgment”.
Do not take people for granted
In their silence (night hour) they cry out to the maker who when he answers the outcome may not be favourable to you.
“People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care” John C. Maxwell.
Lets us arise as we yield ourselves to the word
He who has washed us by his blood
Behold he has purchased us
We belong to him
We are not of ourselves
It is we who need God and not the other way round
And now every heart bended to Jehovah
And every spirit broken before the heavenly throne

Jesus I come to you that you sanctify the words of my mouth
Fashion my tongue to be the tongue of the learned
May I be blessing to whosoever I will open my to
Sanctify me lord and glorify yourself in my words
Exercise the power of your word in my life
Be evident in me from now hence forth
In Jesus’ name I pray
And the whole church said,
Praise the lord!
Now glory honour and majesty return back to the Ancient of days!!
Halleluiah! Glory to God in the highest!
